The Post Quarantine Church

28Jun

Thom S. Rainer has a new book out called "The Post-Quarantine Church". I wanted to bullet a few points he makes that I believe will be useful for us to ponder as we move towards and within a stage of transformation and renewal.

  • "Churches across America own billions of dollars worth of real estate and facilities. It's time to rethink our facilities' use for the community.
  • The local church may become the new community center.
  • Who else can use your sanctuary as their worship space at a different time than Sunday mornings? Different churches in the same facility.
  • The digital world is a primary mission field. It's much more than just getting online what you are already doing in the building.
  • There will be people that never enter your church that will desire an online community and opportunities to grow. What's the digital plan? You can't be on every social media outlet or channel
  • We have to rediscover our communities and be transformed by them.
  • The slow erosion of most congregations is tied to the drift in their outward focus.
  • We need to pray more.
  • You will have to lead with uncertainty. Experimentation is the new normal. Communicate short-term wins since you won't always know where the long-term will take you.
  • People are not going to come to your church until they see it making a difference in your community.
  • Accept loss.
  • We have to become digitally proficient

Keith is an active clergy member of the United Methodist Church and a licensed social worker. He is also certified in Project Management by the State of Missouri. These tools come together such that Keith can provide a unique experience for leading a congregation.

Keith is a natural leader who knows the right questions and the right time to listen. Keith has a passion for the marginalized in our society. Loving without boundaries and to those that make us uncomfortable is something you will continually hear from him. Keith holds God's grace at the top of his theology. It overcomes all things. His pronouns are He/His.

Keith and his wife Molly, also a United Methodist Pastor, live in Marshall where they are serving in ministry, corralling their pets and making their children’s eyes roll. When not working, Keith enjoys keeping up with the latest music releases and rooting for Cardinal Baseball. Sorry KC fans.

He loves reading of all types, church books, mysteries, and literature. He also loves cooking. Pastor Keith is continuing to expand his knowledge, decompressing with some fiction and/or baking. If you ever wish to contribute to that cause feel free to check out his Amazon wish list

Most of all, Keith wants to build relationships. He wants to get to know people beyond the "hello in the hallway."
